Alison Hunter

Alison Hunter is an artist and maker from Sligo. Her work is inspired by vernacular houses and the natural landscape focusing on broken tableware  Art works are created using wool fibres with wet felting and needle felting techniques.

Alison’s work focuses on found broken old plate pieces and combines them with wool felt. Everyday objects refusing to be forgotten reminding us of our vernacular heritage and past. She creates a new function for the plate as an art piece, preserving old memories and creating new ones.

In addition to working with plate pieces Alison creates framed felted art pieces depicting the rich Irish landscapes, and Irish flora and fauna set in timber.

She holds a BA(Hons) Degree in Heritage Studies, and a Diploma in Textiles.  Alison has exhibited her work nationally and in 2016 her work was selected for the RDS Design and Craft Awards Exhibition. She is a member of Design &Craft Council of Ireland and Visual Artists Ireland.
